Ancient Egypt was an ancient civilization of eastern North Africa concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile, in what is now modern country of Egypt. It was part of a larger complex civilization of the Nile Valley Civilization, with the regions south of Egypt (in today's Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia and Ethiopia) are part of. Egyptian civilization around 3150 BC united with the political unification of Upper and Lower Egypt under the first pharaoh and his development over the next three millennia. His place in the history of stable Kingdoms series, separated by periods of relative stability known as the intermediate periods. Ancient Egypt reached its peak during the New Kingdom, after which began a period of slow decline. Egypt was conquered by successive powers at this late date. The principle of the pharaohs officially ended in 31 BC, when Egypt fell to the Roman Empire and became a Roman province.
The success of ancient Egyptian civilization is partly due to its ability to adapt to the conditions set out in the Nile Valley.
